Moderator alerts
Alerts go to your notification inbox, with optional CC recipients. Spam-flagged comments do not send the normal alert.
Email notifications for Shopify blog comments.
Set up new-comment alerts for your team and optional reply emails for readers with Better Blog Comments. Check the recipient address, test both emails and troubleshoot missing messages.
Merchant alerts and reader replies serve different jobs.
Your team needs to know when a comment arrives. A reader needs to know when someone answers their question. Better Blog Comments provides both workflows, with reader reply emails controlled by opt-in and approval settings.
Shopify’s native comment documentation describes moderation and spam controls. It does not document a reader reply-subscription workflow. The instructions below apply to Better Blog Comments.
Use a separate reader address for testing. The app skips reader reply notifications when the parent comment uses your merchant notification address.
Replying to an app notification can publish your answer to the blog. Keep order numbers, addresses and other private customer details in a separate support conversation.
Hi Sarah,
Maya replied to your comment on Summer Sangria: 7 Tips From Real Readers.
You wroteTried this last weekend — added peaches instead of strawberries and it was incredible. Should I rest it overnight?
Overnight is even better — the peaches break down a little and the wine takes on the flavor. Glad it worked!
You're getting this because you asked to hear about replies on a Moonbrew post.
The two emails we send
A merchant alert for a new comment that is not flagged as spam, and a reader reply email when the reader opted in and the approval conditions are met.
Check the saved Notification email and CC fields, including spelling. Search spam, junk and any inbox rules. A comment flagged as spam does not trigger the normal new-comment alert. Confirm the comment exists in the app rather than only in Shopify’s native comments list.
Check that the parent comment opted in to “Notify me”, that the email address is correct and that the reply is approved. By default, an unapproved parent comment can also delay notification. Review the setting for notifying replies before approval if your workflow requires it.
Separate delivery from display. An email problem does not prove the comment failed to save. Check the app’s moderation status and the missing-comments checklist before resubmitting.
You can customize the admin name and email branding. Messages use the Better Blog Comments sending domain; setting your admin name does not change the sender to your own domain. Email delivery is included without a separate email-service account.
Contact our team with the post URL, whether the missing email is a merchant alert or reader reply, and the approximate test time. Keep customer email addresses out of public comments.
Sent through Postmark. Included on every plan. No SMTP to configure.
Alerts go to your notification inbox, with optional CC recipients. Spam-flagged comments do not send the normal alert.
Hit Reply in your inbox. Your answer posts on the blog as a threaded reply. No dashboard needed.
Readers who opt in can receive reply emails with a link to the post. Approval settings affect when they are sent.
