Shopify’s built-in blog comments are a useful starting point. If you need threaded replies, email workflows or more control over moderation, compare apps against those specific needs. A product-review or loyalty app is not automatically a replacement for a blog comment section.

1. Better Blog Comments: a dedicated Shopify blog comment section

Better Blog Comments adds threaded replies, optional star ratings, spam checks and a moderation dashboard to Shopify blogs. It also sends comment alerts and supports replying by email. Readers do not need an account to leave a comment.

Every feature is free for your first 25 comments. Pro unlocks unlimited comments for $20 a month or $200 a year, with a 14-day free trial. Comments beyond the free allowance still arrive; upgrading lets you read and reply to them.

This is a fit when you want to manage conversations inside Shopify and let readers respond directly on your blog. Check the feature details, plan limits and live demo against your theme and workflow.

2. Comments Plus: enhance native comments or use Disqus

Comments Plus lists threaded replies, likes and dislikes, a rich-text editor and image uploads. It also supports a Disqus feed alongside its native-comment features. The listing shows $5 per month and a seven-day trial.

3. Commentify: comments across several page types

Commentify lists comments for blogs and products, nested replies, spam filtering, comment approval and optional anonymous commenting. Standard is $9.99 per month for up to 10,000 comments; Advanced is $29.99 per month with unlimited comments. Both list a three-day trial. Its free plan is for development stores.

4. Sunny: an email-first moderation workflow

Sunny focuses on receiving, approving and replying to Shopify blog comments by email. Its listing includes a spam filter, three subscribed team members and unlimited blogs per store, for $2.99 per month with a 30-day trial.

What changed from the 2024 guide?

We corrected Better Blog Comments’ old $9.99 price, added current limits and trials, and removed stale ratings and unsupported “best overall” claims. EasyDisqus is no longer included because we could not verify a current Shopify App Store listing. Growave’s current listing focuses on loyalty, product reviews and wishlists; it does not establish it as a dedicated blog-comments alternative, so it is outside this comparison.

How to choose

• Start with Shopify’s native comments if basic submissions and approval meet your needs.
• Test threaded replies, spam handling and moderator tools with your actual theme.
• Check whether readers need to log in and how reply notifications work.
• Compare comment limits and billing terms rather than just the headline monthly price.
• Confirm how existing comments are imported and what happens if you uninstall.
