How spam protection worksShopify blog comments: the complete guide.
How to turn on Shopify blog comments, moderate them, fix comments that don't show, stop spam and reply to readers. Plus what the built-in comments can't do, and how to add threaded replies and ratings.
Shopify blog comments are off or on per blog, not per post. To change the setting:
We recommend "pending moderation" for most stores. You see every comment before your readers do.
The setting only works if your theme puts a comment form on blog posts. Online Store 2.0 themes such as Dawn and Horizon include it in the blog post template. If you don't see the form, open the theme editor, go to a blog post and check that the comments section is there and visible.
For native comments, use Content → Blog posts → Manage comments to review approval and spam statuses. Comments submitted through an app should be reviewed in that app.
First identify whether you use Shopify’s native comments or an app. Then check the relevant moderation queue and the template assigned to the affected post. Our Shopify blog comments not showing checklist covers both paths, including missing forms, missing old comments and duplicate forms.
What built-in Shopify blog comments can't do.
The built-in comments work for a quiet blog. Once readers start asking questions, four gaps show up.
Replies nest under the comment they answer, with no depth limit.
A Reply button on every comment, and a check badge on yours.
Readers who tick "Notify me" get an email when someone replies.
Optional 1 to 5 star ratings, with the average above the comments.

How spam protection worksYou get an email for every new comment. Hit Reply, type your answer and send. It posts on the blog under the original comment.

How replies workBetter Blog Comments is free for your first 25 comments. Every feature is included, and you don't need a credit card. That gives a new blog months to see if comments work.
After 25 comments, Pro is $20 a month or $200 a year for unlimited comments, with a 14-day free trial. Your blog keeps collecting comments past 25, but you upgrade to read, reply to and moderate them in the app. Compare the plans.
Frequently asked questions
The questions merchants ask most. If yours isn't here, email the team.
In your Shopify admin, go to Content, then Blog posts, then Manage blogs. Open the blog and choose a comment setting: comments are disabled, comments are allowed but wait for your approval, or comments are allowed and publish at once. Click Save. Your theme must also show the comment form on blog posts. Online Store 2.0 themes such as Dawn and Horizon do this by default.
Identify which comment system you use, check its approval and spam queues, and verify the active post template. If you use an app, make sure its block is present in the published theme. Follow the full troubleshooting checklist.
Set the blog to hold comments for approval in Manage blogs. New comments then appear in Content, then Blog posts, then Manage comments. From there you can publish a comment, mark it as spam or delete it. With Better Blog Comments you moderate in the app instead, and you can approve, mark as spam or delete many comments at once.
To delete one comment, open Blog posts, then Manage comments, find the comment and delete it. To turn comments off for a whole blog, open Manage blogs, choose the blog and set comments to disabled. Existing comments stop showing on that blog's posts.
Not as a true reply. Shopify's built-in comments are a flat list, so your answer posts as a new comment at the bottom, and the reader gets no email. Better Blog Comments adds a Reply button on every comment, nests your answer under the question and emails the reader if they asked to be notified.
Shopify has basic spam filtering, and you can hold every comment for approval. Better Blog Comments adds more: every comment is checked by OOPSpam, a hidden bot trap catches simple bots, and you can turn on Cloudflare Turnstile with your own free keys. Marking a comment as spam reports it back, so the filter learns.

Tried this last weekend with peaches instead of strawberries. The tip about chilling the wine first made a huge difference.
Love that swap, Sarah. Peaches make it taste like an aperol spritz had a better-dressed cousin.
Made a half batch for date night and we drank the whole thing. Adding the rosemary syrup next time.
